"It is evident that when we see movies from the medieval era, we don’t see enough, if any representation of people of colour from that time. This is not because Black or people of color were nonexistent during that time but because of the lack of opportunities to be included in these films. The concept of this article and photoshoot is reimagining the past and the future using radical imagination. Imagination and creativity allow us to reimagine and create a world that doesn’t yet exist, enabling us to dream and hope for a better world ahead. We can take the past and create a universe for ourselves, that is accessible and better representative of where we came from, where we have been, and where we want to go.

When we reflect on what has moved the world forward thus far, we begin to see that, it is the radical dreams of our ancestors that demanded a better world that had not yet existed during their time. The world we currently live in does not exist by accident, we do not exist in a vacuum. The freedom we have for self-expression and the ability to show up as our whole self has been fought for through a radical dream at some point in time.

Using this reflection, I want to dive into further reimagination of the world we live in. Creativity and being a constant dreamer create a necessary escape from a world that can be too overwhelming at times. Looking further into the radical imagination of people who were here before us, fashion has been used as a statement and resistance against social issues. From our hairstyles to our clothing, to the way we move through the world has been and is a form of resistance to a world that constantly tells us that we do not belong and we shouldn’t take up space.
