Hello Readers,
Welcome to the second issue of our MODE Magazine; The Colour Edition'. Colour has obvious significance in our daily life and even more so in creative industries such as art, fashion and film. With Summer just around the corner here in Aotearoa; the Colour Edition intends to thaw the cold of the past Winter months and awaken your creativity and imagination.
This issue contains 10 exclusive articles, interviews and photoshoots that demonstrate visual creativity and a unique interpretation of colour in diverse cultural, seasonal, traditional, art or style contexts.
Our feature interview allowed my team and I to attend The World of Wearable Arts show and competition this last October. We had the opportunity to interview the Creative Director; Brian Burke, Art Director; Malia Johnston and Lead Performer; Estère. To say meeting these three talented individuals was inspiring is an understatement. The show itself was beyond anything I could've ever expected, if you haven't been before; you need to grab a ticket for the 2023 show!
Our cover photo is part of an editorial photoshoot featuring garments designed by Kiwi designer Wynn Hamlyn; as worn by model Seb John from NOIR The Agency. This collection was shot by yours truly; me!
Our interviews include Dutch designer Saar Snoek, who also featured her design in WOW this year. I spoke with designers Vincent Ludwig and Krystian Sokolowsk of KRYSVINCZI and Bayon Kim of New Zealand's premier Men's underwear brand; MINTWEAR. We also learned about some incredible Glass art with designer and artist; Jeremy Sinkus.
We have a feature article on the topic of Colourism written by our journalist Sanele Ngubane; an awesome look into the colourful and spectacular Holi Festival by Shivangi Sahni and a beautiful Spring photoshoot by Mary Adeosun and Diana Simumpande featuring Toni Reid from NOIR The Agency.
Lastly, 6 incredible models from NOIR The Agency and I hit Commercial Bay in Auckland's CBD this last month and had a beautiful and colourful photoshoot. The models also shared what being Models of Colour means to them so check it out!
I hope this issue brings new a persepective on colour and sparks and inspires creativity to all who read it and support the cultural industries in Aotearoa and beyond.
